Heart???????

I haven't spoken to anyone about this......until now :) I cycled to the shops today, and I had an incredible pain in my chest and neck, which dissipated when I stopped exerting myself. But I do keep getting twinges in the leftside of my neck and collar bone. Should I be in the least bit worried?????

I'm not mechanical, or techy as you know by now. I think the luxury bit of my GT5 came when the CTC paid for it to be customised for me.

  1. Dunno - you see the nurse regularly don't you? Ask her...?
No doubt if you phone NHS Direct they'll either tell you to take a paracetamol & go to bed or call an ambulance - they don't seem to do much in between the two.
I was having chest pains and felt unwell at work. Work sent me to A&E. Ended up on a tresdmill after signing a resusitation-permission form. They ran the readmill up to '12' and I didn't fall over so they told me I was fine, ready for the olympics and to go home...
I'm not sure the doctors know!

  2. Pretty scary for you though. Perhaps, if you'd seen the notes 'NOT FOR RESUSITATION' that would have been more frightening!!

Thanks for your experience though, I'll just leave it, and maybe mention it to medical staff. I aint going till Friday though. And I've got to visit my Mum which is a stressful ride, I think I'll do that on Tuesday, (minus the children)

    Are you fully recovered?

  3. I'll call you and tell you the joke about a man and his trousers - probably something needs a bit of fine tweaking in the way you sit on the trike or even do something else. Many women who ride bikes ride machines built for men's proportions, and women (in classic proportions - not allowing for various morphs - endo etc) have shorter arms relative to their torso's so that stretching out over a man's lenght top-tube to handlebars set well forward leaves neck and shoulder muscles strained. THus a shorter reach handlebar stem and if possible a 'feminised' bike frame makes a heap of a difference.

I had a heart wobble about 2 years ago - but thanks to the fact that I am fairly fit, I walked in to A&E and they threw a fit at my extremely low BP and racing heartbeat - I OTOH just thought I was feeling particularly awful and out of breath, and was really annoyed that they kept me in for several days.

Ride regularly and you should get a good low resting puls and it will return quickly after a big thrash - so you puff and pant but for shorter and shorter periods each time you have a big burn of energy.

  4. Ahh, thank you Dave, that nakes a lot of sense about the handle bars, it really does. Because having just riden, to Dore Station, for lunch, and back. Is it your quadrosep??? Was hurting as apposed to any major chest pain.

Funny joke, sorry I didn't speak, I was otherwise engaged. But not, how you think.....yet.

  5. Remind me to get you a dicshunerry sometime - Quadriceps but sounds more likely the Pectorals. Might even be some subtle changes in the way your body is performing as cycling gets the various bits toned-up. With a bit less of a bum booster cushion you might be sitting down into the seat more, and then again remember to keep laced-up, a saggy seat is another potential cause of your discomfort.

Yep remember it is the cut of your clothes that can make such a difference both in how you look and how you feel ;-)
